Chaguaramas Golf Club Junior History

The Junior Golf Programme of the Chaguaramas Golf Club commenced in October 2000 and was sponsored by Pelican Inn. The programme had eight (8) Children at the time

In January 2001 , Republic Bank became a sponsor for the Junior Clinic which at the time was a Beginners Clinic. With each successive clinic a path was mapped for the Junior as the programme evolved.

By the year 2003 the Graduate (Intermediate) classes were developed and that was sponsored by SMALTA. By 2006 , the Course (Advanced) classes were introduced and Republic Bank became the major sponsor for the Junior clinics put on the the Club.

Clinics were held minimum three (3) times a year. These very successful clinics take place on Saturdays and currently have in excess of one hundred and forty juniors per clinic.

Each clinic comprises 8 sessions: 7 training sessions and one final tournament session. The tournament is divided in 1) drive, 2) chip and 3) putt category for the Beginners , a 6 hole simulated course category for the Graduates , and also a 9-hole; 6-hole and 4-hole competition on the Golf Course for the Advanced Juniors .

There are 3 classes: Beginners (Level I, II, III) , Intermediate (Graduates I / II) and Advanced (Course I / II). The objective of the Chaguaramas Junior Programme is to expose the children to the game of golf. There are hand-in-hand private lessons to go with the golf sessions for those who are interested in developing their full potential.

These clinics are conducted by professional coaches. At the inception in 2000 the clinic commenced with Chris Richards (head coach)- Chaguaramas Golf Club, Mitchum Jasper – Chaguaramas Golf Club , and Clifford Hinds – Chaguaramas Golf Club.

In 2002 , added to the above coaches, the Clinic introduced Robert McKenna (former club pro)- Chaguaramas Golf Club, Stephen Bishop- St Andrew's Golf Club and Anthony Benny- St Andrew's Golf club. Assisting them is Anthony Griffith.

In 2007 , the current coaches are Lennox Yearwood , Robert MCKenna, Stephen Bishop , Clifford Hinds and Anthony Griffith (Assistant).
